Spring 2013 Food Drives
|
Our thanks to the fire departments of Lucan-Biddulph (Lucan Station) and North Middlesex (Ailsa Craig & Parkhill Stations) for coordinating food drives in Lucan, Parkhill, Ailsa Craig, Carlisle and Nairn. Your time and hard work was greatly appreciated.
Thank you to the residents of these communities...combined, your generosity provided over 4300 lbs. of non-perishalbe food items to help families in our area! Thank you for helping us as we continue to face record requests for assistance.
The past two weeks alone have seen 11 more families requiring assistance. We wouldn't be able to rise to this challenge without your support!
Christmas Season Food Drives
|
I want to thank the communities in our service area who are so generously helping us to stock the food bank for the Christmas Hampers and the challenging winter season ahead. The response has been incredible with a number of food drives still to go. Thank you also for supporting our annual Christmas Angel Tree Programs. You enable us to provide gifts for chidren age 18 and under and give them a Christmas they will remember for good reasons!

Pork Donation
|
New Life Mills purchased 2 pigs during the Huron County 4H Swine Club annual auction at the Seaforth Fair. The processing was then donated by Zurich Meat Market, producing a total of 498 lbs dressed weight. The meat was then donated to the Ailsa Craig and Area Food Bank. Some needy families may now be able to enjoy prize winning pork for Thanksgiving dinner. The pigs were raised locally by Shawn & Eric Steeper of Parkhill. New Life Mills has a local facility located in Denfield. New Life Mills is a division of Parish and Heimbecker, a family owned Canadian business who is proud to give back to the community. Pictured below left to right is: Eric Steeper, Rev. Mark Isaac (General Manager of the Ailsa Craig and Area Food Bank), Chris Fullam (representing New Life Mills, Business Manager - Swine), and Shawn Steeper. Shawn and Eric are proud to participate in the 4H swine program and are especially happy that the result of their hard work is going back to the local community.

Arrived home on Friday evening from the Ontario Association of Food Banks Conference. Very inspired. Thank you again to the Ailsa Craig firefighters for collecting food on Thursday evening and for the generosity of our community. The Lucan firefighters are collecting for us this Tuesday evening (June 12) and Parkhill firefighters will be collecting on Wednesday evening (June 13). Please pass the word and watch for a poster in your mail.
Please sign this petition...

Bill Laidlaw, who is the Executive Director of the Ontario Association of Food Banks has provided the opportunity to sign a petition that will be presented to the provincial government. I would encourage you to go to the webpage and exercise your opportunity to donate your voice to the cause of "Hunger Awareness" ...especially to voice it to our political leaders. Please read below for Bill's invitation to sign.
This week is Hunger Awareness Week in Canada and we would like you to take a stand against hunger in our province by Donating Your Voice to our petition.
In the upcoming weeks, the OAFB will be meeting with MPPs and key stakeholders across the province to discuss hunger and poverty in Ontario.
It is our hope that you will take a minute to sign our petition and let Ontario's politicians know that having hungry children, adults and families in this province is not acceptable.
Please take a stand with me, by adding your voice to our petition and forwarding this email to your friends and family.
Together, we can end hunger.
Sincerely,
Bill Laidlaw, Executive Director
